The Reception of Ancient Egypt

Resumen

The following search seeks to present the field of reception of Ancient Egypt together with its theoretical assumptions, to show what its main contributions to the study of this civilization. Also presented are some common terminologies in the field and their respective authors. For a more complete approach, Charles Martindale and his concept of "chain of reception" will be used, understanding that the values and images are the result of a series of receptions, that is, interpretations, from earlier times, that add to the meaning of the original work. Therefore, this work brings two cases of previous receptions of Ancient Egypt that most influenced its representation in the West – that of the Greek texts and of the Jewish and Christian tradition – stimulating finally a reflection on the relationship between Egyptology and the reception of Ancient Egypt.
