Abstract

The Instrucción que el Rey manda observar a las Ciudades, Villas y Lugares de las veinte y dos Provincias de los Reynos de Castilla, y de León, para la comprobación de las diligencias practicadas en la averiguación de sus fondos y utilidades, por Real Decreto de 10 de Octubre de 1749, para el establecimiento de una sola Contribución, better known as Checks of Ensenada's cadastre and carried out in the early years of the 1760s, constituted the second part of the Única Junta de Contribución of the cadastre of Ensenada, whose ultimate purpose was to account for private property for a tax reform, and its funds are stored in the Archivo General de Simancas. Taking into account that, due to several factors, they receive less attention from the humanistic research field than the documents in the first part and taking advantage of the fact that the Ministry of Culture has made the digitised source available online since 2019, we present in this paper an editorial proposal for 9 different documents of the Checks concerning the Galician parish of Portor, with a detailed exposition of the criteria comparable to those already offered for the documents of the first part of the cadastre, with the rigorous transcription of the 9 documents in accordance with these criteria and with the ultimate objective of contributing to the systematization of the edition of the source and, with it, to its easy disposition for humanistic research on the eighteenth century.
