Author Guidelines

MANUSCRIPTS SUBMISSION

I. Registration

Submissions are made online. If you haven't registered yet for Mulemba, go to Registration menu and follow the instructions showed. It is necessary to register as Reader and Author. At the end, the generated username and password will be required for submission and for checking its editorial process. The Mulemba journal accepts articles about African Literatures in the Portuguese Language, as well as about relations of these literatures with those from other countries, in accordance with the themes of each call, which is widely divulged, and according to the deadline for sending the papers. It also accepts articles at any time, in a continuous flow, without being related to the theme of the edition. The length of the papers should be prepared as follows: articles are published with a minimum of 8 to 10 and a maximum of 15 to 20 pages; book reviews on the literatures mentioned, published in the last 2 years, with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 pages; interviews with writers, teachers, critics and other actors involved with these kinds of literatures, with a maximum of 6 pages.

The texts should be submitted online, in DOC, DOCX or RTF format. and can be written in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish.

1 - The submitted works should not be published previously elsewhere and, in order to be accepted, they should be in accordance with the thematic proposal. 

2 -- The article should:

• bear, at the beginning of the text, the title (upper case, Times New Roman font, size 12, centered, 1.5 line spacing). Right below, with 1.5 space, it comes the title in English and in Spanish (if the title is in Portuguese; or in Portuguese and in English, if the article is written in Spanish; or in Portuguese and in Spanish, if the article is in English), upper case, Times New Roman font, size 11, italic; 

• be unidentified [with no author(s)' data]. The works are associated with the metadata filled in at the moment of the submission and recognized by the system. For this reason, accurateness is indispensable when completing the fields: author/co-author, institutional affiliation, e-mails and bio statement (which can be obtained from the author's CV in Lattes Platform).

3 -- The ABSTRACT in Portuguese should:

• come after 1.5 space, below the title of the article in foreign language, upper case, bold, followed by a colon;
• after 1.5 space, come the text of the RESUMO. At the end of the article, after the References, will come the ABSTRACT and the RESUMEN. If the article is written in a language other than Portuguese, it must come the RESUMO, and its version in other foreign language different from the language of the article, with the same settings, in italic;
• ·        be initiated with 1.0 cm indentation and be written in Times New Roman font, 11;
• not surpass 250 (two hundred and fifty) words, in a single paragraph and line spacing, 1.5.

 3.1 -- The KEYWORDS [palavras-chave] in Portuguese should:

• be initiated with 1.0 cm indentation, subtitle in upper case, bold, 1.5 line spacing, with a colon introducing the keywords;
• contain the minimum of 3 and the maximum of 5 key words, in lower case (except proper nouns, countries, etc.), separated by commas and ended with a period;
• be written in Times New Roman font, 11.

4 -- The ABSTRACT in English should:

• be placed at the end of the article (if original is not in English);
• be written in Times New Roman Font, 11, italic;
• not surpass 250 (two hundred and fifty) words, in a single paragraph and line spacing, 1.5;
• be preceded by the word ABSTRACT, upper case, bold, 1.5 line spacing;
• contain the text in English, be initiated with 1.0 cm indentation, right below the word ABSTRACT (if the article is written in a language other than English).

 4.1 - The KEYWORDS in English should:

• the subtitle should be written with 1.0 cm indentation, upper case, bold, followed by a colon, contain the minimum of 3 and the maximum of 5 KEYWORDS, in lower case (except words in English language wich do not demand capital letter), pertinent to the work subject, separated by commas and ended with a period;

• be written in Times New Roman font, 11, italic;
• it is important to elaborate the ABSTRACT, the TITLE and the KEYWORDS carefully. They should not present either mistakes or deficient structure.

5 -- The ABSTRACT in Spanish should:

• be placed at the end of the article (if original is not written in Spanish);
• be written in Times New Roman Font, 11, italic;
• not surpass 250 (two hundred and fifty) words, in a single paragraph and line spacing, 1.5;
• be preceded by the word RESUMEN, upper case, bold, 1.5 line spacing;
• contain the text in Spanish, be initiated with 1.0 cm indentation, right below the an RESUMEN (if the article is written in a language other an Spanish).

5.1 -- The KEYWORDS [palabras-clave] in Spanish should:

• the subtitle should be written with 1.0 cm indentation, upper case, bold, followed by a colon, contain the minimum of 3 and the maximum of 5 PALAVRAS-CLAVE, in lower case (except words in Spanish language wich do not demand capital letter), pertinent to the work subject, separated by commas and ended with a period;
• be written in Times New Roman font, 11, italic;
• It is important to elaborate the Abstract, the title and the keywords carefully. They should not present either mistakes or deficient structure.

6. The body of the ARTICLE should:

• initiate after 1.5 space;
• contain the minimum of 8 and the maximum of 20 pages;
• be written in A4 format; Times New Roman font, 12; line spacing, 1.5; indents, 1.0 cm; margins, 3.0 cm;
• in case there are headings in the body of the article, they should initiate with capital letter, bold, left-aligned, 1.5 space, before and after them.

7 -- The images (figures, tables, charts, graphics) should:

• be available in digital media;
• be in PNG or JPG format, and must be provided in separated files;
• be incorporated in the text, with legends and sources.

8 -- The quotations which are more than 3 lines should:

• be deployed in another independent paragraph, left indent 4 cm, line spacing 1.5, Times New Roman font, 11, with no quotation marks (quotations up to 3 lines should be cited within the text's body, between quotation marks);
• the references should be mentioned in parentheses, and according to the following information: author's family name in upper case; comma; year of publication; page abbreviation (p.) and page references. For example: (SILVA, 1992, p. 3-23);

• theoretical citations with no translation into the language of the original article should be translated within the body of the text, with the information “our translation” in the bibliographic references which will come in parentheses). The original passage of the citation should be in footnote. Literary texts, object of the analysis, do not need to be translated.

9. The Notes should

• be in Times New Roman font, 10, single-spaced, justified;
• be restricted to a minimum necessary;
• be presented in footnotes.

10 -- The References should:

• be according to the ABNT (Brazilian Technical Standards Association) guidelines (NBR-6023);
• be written in Times New Roman Font, 12, left-aligned, single-spaced, with 1.5 space between them;
• have the subtitle with capital letter, bold, introduced by a colon, 1.5 space, before and after it.
• follow the examples:

• Book: family name (upper case), first name, title of the book (in bold), city of publishing, Editors, year of publication:

• Article: family name, first name, title of the article, name of the jornal (in bold), volume and number, date of publication:

• provide the hyperlink (in case there is no DOI® -- Digital objetc identifier), if there is reference URL available:

11. The authors assume full responsibility for the opinions, concepts, opinions, ideologies and images issued in their (his or her) article.

12. The rejected works will not be returned to the author. The approved ones will follow a selecting schedule, according to the Editors Commission criterion.

13 -- Works which do not conform to the editorial policy rigorously will not be published.
