This essay aims to analyze the life and work of Samuel Pinheiro Guimarães regarding Brazilian society and the contemporary international context. Guimarães discusses concepts such as nationalism and borders, highlighting the complexity of contemporary geopolitics and the economic and political challenges faced by nations. Building on his concepts, the Brazilian diplomatic tradition is analyzed, emphasizing Samuel Pinheiro Guimarães' formation as a diplomat, his influence on Brazil's foreign policy, and changes in Brazilian foreign policy over time, including the approach to emerging countries like China, in contrast to the influence of the United States on the direction of Brazilian foreign policy.
As a synthesis of these issues, the hypothesis is raised that China's rise as a global power has altered global economic dynamics to the detriment of the United States, even leading it to become Brazil's main trading partner. In this sense, despite political and cultural challenges, Sino-Brazilian cooperation strengthens in various areas, from trade to science and technology, while both countries seek to balance interests in a complex and competitive geopolitical landscape, marked by the relative decline of American power..
