Submissions
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- The contribution must be original and unpublished (except in cases of translation, of course), and must not be under review by another publication. The Editorial Committee reserves the right to investigate cases of double submission or plagiarism for submitted articles. It is important to note that Topoi does not publish excerpts from dissertations or theses; such works must undergo a rewriting process so that they are not understood as self-plagiarism.
- Submitted texts must not contain any indication of authorship or cover letters. Manuscripts may include material previously published by the author(s), provided that it is clearly indicated, with full references, and that the submitted article brings a significant original contribution. Self-references should be used sparingly.
- Submissions should be sent in Microsoft Word format files. If they contain photographs, illustrations, tables and/or graphs, they should be inserted in the body of the text. Tables and graphs are numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals and headed by title, with the sources duly cited in a caption aligned to the left. Images, in JPG format, have captions beginning with the term Figure and numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals, with the sources duly cited (author, name of the work, date, collection location, dimensions, material description or other necessary information). When submitting the article, the author must also separately attach the images and tables in good resolution on the ScholarOne platform. It is the responsibility of the authors to obtain authorization for publication of any images protected by copyright.
- The works must be typed in normal font Times New Roman 12; justified alignment; standard tab (1.25 cm) at the beginning of paragraphs; 1.5 line spacing (do not use any type of “before” and “after” spacing, nor “multiple” line spacing or any other type other than that specified here); A4 size page; top and bottom, right and left margins, 2.5 cm.
- Quotations with more than three lines are highlighted from the text, without quotation marks, composing a paragraph with a 1.5 cm indentation on the left margin, normal font Times New Roman, 11, single line spacing. Quotations with less than three lines are included in the body of the text, between quotation marks, in normal font.
- Epigraphs must be aligned to the right, with a 7 cm indentation, font 11, single line spacing. The referencing follows the standard (AUTHOR’S SURNAME, year, p. XX). The use of italics should be restricted to words and excerpts in a foreign language, as well as the title of works cited throughout the text.
- Quotations in a foreign language must appear translated; the original must appear in a footnote, with information about the authorship of the translation. In the case of an in-house translation, the standard “Free translation by the author” is used. When a quotation in a foreign language appears in an explanatory note in the footnote, it must also be accompanied by its translation in the same note.
- Topoi uses explanatory footnotes, numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals. The notes appear at the end of each page, in normal Times New Roman font, size 10, single-spaced, justified.
- Bibliographical references must appear in the main body of the text, following the author-date system. Example: (CASSIRER, 2001, p. 10).
- References to documentary sources (archival documents, interviews, verbal information) should be fully provided only in footnotes, avoiding the use of Ibid. and op. cit. In other words, documentary sources do not constitute a separate field within the references.
- Complete bibliographical references should be listed at the end of the text, in alphabetical order. Only references used in the text should be listed, following the models exemplified below. In case of doubt, the most recent version of ABNT standards is always preferred.
- Annexes and/or appendices will only be included when essential to the understanding of the text.
- All works in Portuguese must be submitted after grammatical and spelling revision (in accordance with the provisions of the New Portuguese Language Orthographic Agreement).
- Topoi. Revista de História also publishes articles in English, Spanish, French and Italian, and these texts undergo the same peer review process.
- A two-year gap must be observed between publications by the same author.

A revista encoraja seus autores a difundir os manuscritos publicados em repositórios institucionais e mídias sociais acadêmicas ou pessoais, estimulando a circulação do conhecimento.
Preprints
No momento Topoi se reserva o direito de recusar manuscritos depositados em servidores de preprints, como forma de preservar o anonimato das avaliações.
Processo de avaliação por pares
Topoi. Revista de História opera sob o sistema de avaliação duplo-cego, preservando o anonimato de autores e pareceristas de forma a garantir a lisura do processo de avaliação dos manuscritos. A avaliação se distingue em aceite, aceite com revisões importantes (major revision), aceite com revisões menores (menor revision) e rejeição.
Os editores envolvidos no trâmite de cada artigo aprovado são mencionados nos textos publicados.
Ao final de cada ano, a revista publica em seu site uma relação dos pareceristas que colaboraram com seus pareceres para levar ao público um material inédito e de qualidade.
Dados abertos
A Topoi estimula o compartilhamento dos dados e métodos empregados no artigo, seja através da devida referenciação para que os interessados possam se debruçar sobre as mesmas fontes ou percurso de construção da pesquisa, seja através de repositórios públicos. Tais repositórios podem ser institucionais (como bancos de dados, entrevistas, imagens, manuscritos, arquivos de natureza diversa) ou aqueles presentes na Lista de repositórios para depósito de dados de pesquisa do SciELO.
Os autores também podem manifestar sua disponibilidade para compartilhamento de dados quando diretamente contatados pelos interessados.
Cobrança de Taxas
A Topoi. Revista de História não cobra quais taxas de submissão, publicação ou acesso aos trabalhos que publica.
Política sobre Conflito de Interesses
O conflito de interesses pode ser de natureza pessoal, comercial, política, acadêmica ou financeira. Conflitos de interesses podem ocorrer quando autores, revisores ou editores possuem interesses que podem influenciar na elaboração ou avaliação de manuscritos. Ao submeter o manuscrito, os autores são responsáveis por reconhecer e revelar conflitos financeiros ou de outra natureza que possam ter influenciado o trabalho. Caso haja, ainda que potencialmente, conflito de interesse, o(s) autor(es) deve(m) informá-lo em documento próprio assinado e anexado à plataforma de submissão. Os autores contam ainda com a possibilidade de manifestar conflitos de interesse quanto a pareceristas em potencial, o que será acatado pelos editores.
Adoção de softwares de verificação de similaridade
Todos os manuscritos submetidos à Topoi são objeto de investigação com recurso ao programa Plagius, que verifica a similaridade de textos, e de refinamento das informações obtidas nos sites de busca.
Adoção de softwares uso de recursos de Inteligência Artificial
Topoi não emprega nenhum software de ferramenta de inteligência artificial, tampouco aceita seu uso na construção textual. Parte essencial da divulgação das pesquisas de cunho histórico, o estilo pessoal do autor e o poder da narrativa apresentada são considerados elementos importantes na avaliação dos trabalhos.
