Resumo

O artigo examina a propaganda alemã veiculada no Brasil durante a Primeira Guerra Mundial, levando em conta os projetos político-econômicos da Alemanha no país e os debates recentes da historiografia em torno do processo de totalização da guerra. A partir dos marcos teóricos fornecidos pelos estudos culturais da Grande Guerra, pretendemos contribuir para o preenchimento de uma lacuna historiográfica a respeito das dimensões culturais do conflito. O eixo de análise recai nas iniciativas estatais e privadas alemãs e em sua disseminação no território brasileiro entre 1914 e 1918 a partir de um conjunto de propaganda alemã, bem como de fundos diplomáticos, relatórios e correspondências consulares dos National Archives de Londres. Concluímos demonstrando como a experiência do Brasil esteve, desde o início do conflito, integrada ao esforço de guerra alemão e ao das potências beligerantes.
