LEISURE CULTURAL INTERESTS AND CONTENTS: CONTINUITIES AND VARIATIONS OF A TYPOLOGY

Authors

Abstract

This essay discusses the uses of the typology of leisure cultural interests/contents in the Brazilian field, considering conceptual continuities and terminological variations in its circulation. The reflection is based on reference formulations and recent works in leisure studies in which the typology is mobilized to interpret cultural experiences, contemporary mediations and social conditions of access to leisure. The different uses of these terms express conceptual appropriations and accommodations that help to understand leisure as a social practice and a dimension of culture. The typology remains relevant when it broadens the reading of leisure experiences and fosters questions about their meanings, mediations and social conditions of fruition. As a historical and open language, it contributes to situating leisure in its contradictions, as a social right, a cultural experience, and a field of dispute marked by unequal conditions of time, coexistence, and participation.
