Sphecidae (Hymenoptera: Apoidea) of Rio de Janeiro State (Southeastern Brazil): Inventory of Species and Notes nn Biology and Distribution

Résumé

An inventory of the Sphecidae (sensu stricto) of the Atlantic Forest in Rio de Janeiro State is presented, with remarks on distribution. The published observations on biology of Sphecidae made in Rio de Janeiro State are compiled and original biological notes are provided for Ammophila gracilis, Sphex ingens, Sphex opacus, Penepodium luteipenne, and Sceliphron fistularium. The study is based on the examination of the entomological collection of the Museu Nacional, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, and on biological observations carried out in several places of the Rio de Janeiro State.
