The construction of ethos, a concept discussed since Ancient Greece and frequently studied by discourse analysts since the last century, plays a fundamental role in the exercise of the influence of subjects in society. In this contexto, this qualitative research aims to analyze the ethos present in apology texts posted on social media. To this end, two apologies issued by Brazilian journalist Evaristo Costa in 2023 and posted on his Instagram account were considered. As a discursive-argumentative theoretical framework, we adopted the Semiolinguistic Theory of Discourse of Patrick Charaudeau (1983, 2019, 2022). Furthermore, to deepen the approach to ethos, we drew on the studies of Dominique Maingueneau (2008, 2019, 2020). The results indicate the presence of ethé of preservation, respect, responsibility, and rationality.
