The Governance of Insecurity Through Patriarchy: The Masculinization of Public Space and the Invisibilization of Gender-Based Violence During the Cambiemos Administration (2015–2019) On November 22, 2015, Cambiemos won the presidential election, bringing an end to the long Kirchnerist decade in Argentina. In this paper, we analyze the “optical governance” of the security issue that unfolded during this new neoliberal political era. Thus, drawing on a theoretical framework that draws upon Foucaultian theory, we demonstrate that during this period, governing the security issue involved reinforcing a patriarchal logic that frames security as a problem of men—men who police and men who commit crimes—and that relegates gender-based violence to a secondary concern.
