CONTEMPORARY CHALLENGES OF DEMOCRACY IN LATIN AMERICA AND THEIR IMPACT ON REGIONAL INTEGRATION PROCESSES
Abstract
The legal recognition of the influence of insurgent social movements requires the rationality and sensitivity of their protagonists in harmonizing state relations with the new desires in which fundamental rights recreate a reality attentive to participatory and inclusive social demands in Latin America, which reveals a crisis of representative democracy in the region and the rise of mechanisms inherent to popular participation in the political system. New horizons for International Law are emerging from the transformations arising from the global pandemic situation caused by Covid-19. There is, therefore, a genuine democratization of International Law. It is concluded that democracy in Latin America's integration processes assumes great relevance for the success of diplomatic policy, enabling more harmonious and pacifist external relations. As a methodology, bibliographical research is used through the analysis of books, legal articles, international documents, legislation and jurisprudence, relying mainly on the works of Luigi Ferrajoli. The research is pure, qualitative and quantitative in nature, with descriptive and exploratory purposes.
