Facsimile and paleographic edition of the Collection of documents from the Municipal Administration of Sabará (1890)

Abstract

The Coletânea de documentos da Intendência Municipal de Sabará is a set of twenty varied documents – letters, official letters, circulars, certificates, receipts - all from the year 1890 referring to the current municipalities of Ibirité and Contagem, located in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The subjects are also quite diverse, ranging from the creation of the district of Vargem da Pantana, belonging to the parish of Contagem, which would become the municipality of Ibirité, to issues related to the population census.  This provides evidence of facts that contribute to a better understanding of the history of Minas Gerais at the end of the 19th century and of the Portuguese language of the time. This heterogeneous set of printed and handwritten texts, stored at the Instituto Histórico Geográfico de Minas Gerais, located in the city of Belo Horizonte-MG, has been transcribed and edited according to the proposed norms, allowing for the presentation of a paleographic edition in parallel with the facsimile. These editions can be consulted by historians, geographers and linguists, as well as those interested in general. The contents of the folios and pages are detailed, as is presented an onomastic index of people, places and institutions.
