Elena Gan: uma Reflexão Sobre a Pesquisa de Escritoras Russas do Século XIX

Abstract

This work, developed in the study group "Russian women of the 19th century: in texts and contexts'', of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), intends to contextualize the life and work of writer Elena Andreevna Gan, who, under the pseudonym Zeneida R-va, portrayed the married life in a critical way, being one of the first Russian writers to introduce these questions about gender roles in her fiction. During her lifetime, she translated and published in the journals Library for Reading and Patriotic Notes. The aim of this article is to draw attention to the author who was recognized by her contemporaries, such as the literary critic Vissarion Bielinsky, but who is currently little included in discussions about 19th century Russian literature, especially in Brazil. By presenting a brief biography of the writer and an overview of her literary life, it is intended to expose obstacles surrounding the research, which is in its early stages and being developed from the perspective of gender studies, as an report of the difficulties involved in searching for information to conduct studies on 19th century Russian woman writers, based on the characteristics of the materials found on the internet about the author.
